Spring 2002

Airplane Crash Exercise

Terrorist Incident Response Exercise
Simulate Airplane Crash of Terrorist Hijacked Plane

PART I - Moffett Fire Response to Airplane Crash Exercise

The exercise simulated a hijacked dual engine aircraft crashing into a "concrete building" at NASA Ames Research Center. The exercise included three victims in the building and one live victim in the plane.

PART II - DART Rescue Response to Airplane Crash Exercise

Note: The scenario changed from an airplane crashing into a one-story structure to an airplane crashing into a nine-story structure with adjacent 15-story structures. DART was required to use high-angle rope rescue techniques.
